Position: Health Economist

Hours: Full time

Location: National Institute of Public Health (Phnom Penh)

Salary: 1,000-1,500 USD/month

Contract: One year (possible extension)

National Institute of Public Health (Cambodia):

National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) is a public administrative establishment that has a broad public health mandate to carry out three main functions: i) laboratory, including serving as the national reference laboratory; ii) research, mainly focusing on providing the Ministry of Health with health systems research and policy support; and iii) public health training, including Master of Public Health and Master of Science programs in Epidemiology, Nutrition, and Hospital Administration. 

Project Overview:

NIPH is one of the consortium partners in SCUBY, a 4-year European funded research project to conduct research study on scale up of an integrated care package for type 2 diabetes and hypertension in three countries, namely Belgium, Slovenia, and Cambodia. In this consortium, NIPH is coordinating Work Package 3 (on costing and financing). Also, in close collaboration with Belgian partner institutions, NIPH offers a mid-term career building opportunity in health economics. Therefore, NIPH is looking for a qualified junior health economist.

Roles and Responsibilities:

In Cambodia, the selected applicant is expected to assist the principal investigator at NIPH to design costing analytical frameworks and tools, perform analyses of cost data to estimate the actual cost of the integrated care package and project the future cost of the scale-up. At the consortium level, the successful candidate is expected to offer technical support to other partners in fulfilling tasks in Work Package 3 (costing and financing). This may involve international travels to other consortium partner institutions in Europe.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Be a Cambodian citizen;
  • Holding a degree of Master in Health Economics or Master in Economics, preferably with econometric and modeling skills;
  • Having at least one year work experience in the related field, in particular in costing;
  • Having good command of English;
  • Having good interpersonal skills and being able to effectively work in group and independently;
  • Having work experience in public health and health systems research is a plus
