National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) known as a national reference laboratory is working on promoting and strengthening laboratory quality service for public health. With highly qualified and experienced technical staff, NPHL offers high quality services at a reasonable price. Laboratory results particularly for disease diagnosis are ensured through up-to-date technologies and use of Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS).

We have been accredited as WHO Measles, Rubella, Dengue, and Japanese Encephalitis Testing Center since 2015 and are certified ISO 15189 in 2018. Currently, we are the leading laboratory in Cambodia for providing High Quality Laboratory Testing (170 types of test)
External Quality Assessment Scheme
We are the leading institution for providing and coordinating External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) in Cambodia. We have provided HIV Proficiency Testing (PT) panels to 66 Volunteer Confidentiality Counseling Testing (VCCT) centers and coordinated 44 public and private laboratories to enroll in overseas EQA programs for Hematology, Biochemistry, Serology,and Microbiology.
Disease Surveillance Outbreak Investigation
We are supporting the National Influenza Surveillance System (Influenza-like Illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) in Cambodia by testing approximately 3,000 spacimens per year.
We are also supporting the National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System by performing confirmatory testing for samples referred from 8 sentinel surveillance sites (approximately 300 samples per year).
Center for Pipette Calibration Equipment
We are providing pipette calibration services run by competent staff strictly trained by the ISO Accreditation Calibration Center of National Institute of Metrology in Thailand. In 2017, 115 pipettes from provincial referral labs, private labs,and NGO labs were calibrated.

Unit of Public Health Lab
We are supporting the National Influenza Surveillance System (Influenza-like Illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) in Cambodia by testing approximately 3,000 spacimens per year.
We are also supporting the National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System by performing confirmatory testing for samples referred from 8 sentinel surveillance sites (approximately 300 samples per year).
In 2017, we tested samples to identify emerging and reemerging diseases such as, Avian Influenza, H5N1(887 cases), H7N9 (3 cases), Zika virus (12 cases), Enterovirus type 71 (70 cases), MERS-Cov (4 cases), and other bacteria.
TRAINING UNIT
LQMS
The NPHL is committed to complying with the requirements of ISO 15189:2012 and the establishment of Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS). We are providing high quality of service that is cost-effective and timely in order to meet all stakeholder needs. All of our staff members are competent and compliant with continuing education requirements. Safety and welfare of both staff and clients are NPHL’s top priorities. .
Short Course
We have provided a training program on Laboratory Quality Management System to eleven provincial referral laboratories since 2011. Results from quality assessment show increase in average score from 18% at baseline to 64% at end line. Twelve new referral hospital laboratories will be enrolled in the program by January 2018. The National Reference Laboratory (NRL) is also providing internship programs for practicum students from nine public and private universities in the country.
Master
We are currently in the process of introducing a Master Course of Laboratory Quality Management into the School of Public Health Program in the coming years.
Practical Student
NPHL gives opportunity for students to practice in our medical laboratory. Recently practicum students from various educational institutions such as University of Health Sciences, International University, University of Puthisastra, and Chenla University are learned from experienced and professional laboratory technicians in Hematology, Biochemistry, Serology, and Microbiology.
